It seems the Apex brand is no longer exclusive to Intel, as ASUS has just unveiled the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex, marking the first time this prestigious line is available for AMD platforms. While the X870E Apex isn’t clad in white like its Intel counterpart, the Z890 Apex, it packs a similar array of features and connectivity options, making it a formidable contender for overclockers and performance enthusiasts.

While the ROG Crosshair X670E Gene has already set several overclocking world records, there’s no word yet on whether ASUS will release an X870E version of the Gene. This time, the X870E Apex steps up, having already claimed multiple world records in overclocking, particularly with the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X.
But the X870E Apex isn’t just about extreme overclocking; it brings a variety of QOL features that cater to users beyond the hardcore OC crowd. A standout addition this time is the inclusion of a backplate, a first for the Apex series, adding both functionality and aesthetic appeal to the board.
In a recent quick interview with ASUS, we learned that the decision to bring an AMD version of the Apex was driven by the growing demand from users who, while not necessarily overclocking enthusiasts, were drawn to the board’s premium performance and striking design. To cater to this broader audience, ASUS has added more QOL features to the most recent Apex boards – including the X870E Apex, making it a versatile option for gamers, builders, and high-performance users alike.
While pricing and availability details are still under wraps, ASUS has indicated that the X870E Apex is expected to launch by the end of Q1 2025, giving enthusiasts something exciting to look forward to.
