The latest Steam hardware survey for July 2025 is a W for AMD and an L for Intel, as Team Blue continues to lose more control bit by bit while Team Red happily converts them over with the power of 3D V‑Cache.
Now powering 40% of gaming PCs on the platform (at least for those enrolled in the survey), this achievement is driven by the likes of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which packs loads of gaming performance at a competitive price (We also picked it as a no-brainer for gaming-only usage). Meanwhile, the 77% Intel from 5 years ago is now 60%, contributed by the fact that they have switched up tactics for their “non i” Core series processors to be more efficiency-focused than raw performance.
Meanwhile, the GPU department still sees the RTX 3060 topping the chart with the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU following suit due to the massive availability of machines running the card at competitive prices. As for Blackwell-powered RTX 50 series offerings, the RTX 5070 sees quite the surge at 1.32% share to take the crown for “The most popular RTX 50 series card for gaming”. And of course, the cream of the crop RTX 5090 sits at a measly 0.19%, because not everyone has the luxury to splurge US$2200 on a GPU that can quickly burst into flames from just a minor installation error.
Turn some attention back to AMD, the Radeon 9000 series cards are kind of unpopular despite strong retail interest in models like the RX 9070 XT. Whether it is due to stock issues or other factors, only time could tell. On the other hand, the 4-year-old RX 6600 desktop card is still the go-to for fellow Team Red supporters.
